The universe is a funny one.
For weeks Kate and I have been working towards a 1st December launch date. Which is all well and good when you are not working. And then we thought Friday instead because Friday is an awesome day to do fun things. Which meant that after work today we had about 4 hours to get everything together. HILARIOUS. But you know we did it, because we are an ace team like that.
Operation Move was Kate’s idea to get herself motivated. I was content to just incessantly aggravate people with my fitness updates. Really, I’ve never gotten over the incessant annoyingness. Just today I left someone an irritating comment on Facebook about how running Is fun in response to a request for non-traditional exercise ideas that are more fun. I’m an ass like that. But Kate had a spark of an idea which turned into something far bigger than she could have ever imagined it would. An extremely conservative estimate (on my part – I manually added up all the check in minutes on Kate’s blog) says that Operation Move has logged 100,000 minutes of exercise so far. And I think that with that sentence you’ll be equally impressed by Operation Move and somewhat alarmed at my blog stalker tendencies.
When I started I wouldn’t entertain the idea of getting off the treadmill. CRAZY. Why would I do that? I was scared to run on the road, it would be heaps harder. And the gym is air conditioned. But in the early stages of Operation Move, inspired by other people’s efforts I thought I could run outside and I did. I distinctly remember the first time I ran 12kms. And I thought it was pretty cool because it was half of a half marathon. But I knew I could never run a half marathon. Well on Sunday I’m about to run my third ON A MOUNTAIN. And that is probably the most fun I will have all week.
In many ways Operation Move has changed my life. I’ve discovered something that I completely love, I’ve discovered amazing friendships, I’ve discovered my family there.
And so when Kate asked me to be resident-geek over there I was psyched. Because it’s awesome when people are generous enough to ask you to be part of their projects and ideas and creativity. And as Kate’s geekification is still a work in progress I figured I could probably be useful too.
We have created two fun challenges for December that I hope people will join in with. One is a photo a day challenge and one is a squat challenge.
Unfortunately during all the super exciting launching and squeeing I will be at work. You are hilarious universe. HILARIOUS. So I’m counting on you all to do that for me. I’ll keep my end of the bargain by getting ready for a celebratory #drunktweetfriday when I get home. No wine and fitness are not a conflict of interest. I have no idea what you are talking about. It’s carb loading.
